Uneven Floors in Vancouver: The Cause and the Fix

Uneven subfloors are one of the most common — and most overlooked — causes of flooring failure in Vancouver properties. Tile cracking in kitchens and bathrooms, LVP that clicks and shifts at transitions, hardwood that develops hollow spots — these symptoms are almost always the result of inadequate subfloor preparation rather than defective flooring.

In Vancouver's older housing stock — particularly wood-frame construction from the 1950s through 1980s — subfloor settling, joist movement, and moisture damage create significant unevenness. In newer concrete buildings, form imperfections and slab deflection create similar issues. Both require professional assessment and proper leveling before any floor covering is installed.

We assess subfloor flatness against BC Building Code tolerances, identify moisture issues before they're sealed in, and apply the appropriate self-leveling or grinding solution.
